- Has your child received any fever-reducing medication?
- Has your child or anyone in the home been in contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19?
- Has your child or anyone in the home traveled outside of New England in the last seven days?
- Has your child or anyone in the home had one or more of the following symptoms?: Fever or chills, cough, congestion or runny nose, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea?
If anyone shows symptoms, our next steps are quickly implemented and are evidence-based to keep your child safe and healthy.
- A child goes home if they present at childcare with COVID-19 symptoms.
- If your child shows symptoms at childcare, they get isolated in a dedicated area until pick up within 1 hour.
- If your child doesn’t test positive for COVID-19 or another infectious disease that requires isolation, they’re welcome to return.
- Protocols for children returning to care should be in line with their provider’s recommendations, in consultation with families.
- Areas used by the person who is sick are closed off
- Opening of doors and windows increase air circulation
- We wait for up to 24 hours or as long as possible before cleaning or disinfecting to allow respiratory droplets to settle first
- The preschool reopens after 48 hours if the presumptive case is negative.
*A presumptive positive result is when a patient has tested positive by a public health laboratory, but results are pending confirmation at the CDC. For public health purposes, a presumptive positive result using the CDC test is treated as a positive.
- A positive COVID-19 test requires coordination with the local Board of Health to determine the necessary isolation period before your child returns.
- The preschool closes for 14-days to ensure zero cross-contamination.
